(CNN)A beautiful boy born 11 months ago is dying in London. The world watches as his parents battle to keep their child alive. Courts will not allow the hospital to release the baby, Charlie Gard, into the parents' custody so they can travel to try an experimental treatment. Across the ocean, many people are appalled or confused, and wondering: Could a similar situation happen in the United States? "It's an absolutely horrific situation," said Claire Fenton-Glynn, a legal scholar at the University of Cambridge.
Yet according to some medical ethicists, similar cases happen all the time. The case of Charlie Gard Charlie was born with mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome, a rare condition involving weakened muscles and organ dysfunction, among other symptoms. Because Charlie's prognosis is so poor, his doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London want to take him off life support. Charlie has no hope of surviving, they say, and he should be allowed to die in dignity.

There was a case a few years ago involving a girl in boston childrens. But CNN was kissing obamas ass too much at the time to have any fecks to give.
Is what I said, they were covering Fake News!
Maybe a judge in Hawaii could order Trump to import him.
The frequency of this automatically was reduced when !Yeb¡ was booted offstage during the primaries.
Sadly no, Charlie is not Muslim.
That was the case of Justina Pelletier, a teenager who for more than a year was locked in a psychiatric ward in a Massachusetts hospital and denied access to her loved ones or any opportunities for an education.
And there was the case of Terri Schindler, who was allowed to die from dehydration while Governor Jeb Bush sat on his hands and didn't do jack squat.
I think that due to more heightened awareness, there are more guns than thug bureaucrats in this arena.
Charlie is a handsome little guy!
Lawyer’s (judges) and Liberal Doctors and state bureaucrats should all butt out and let these parents exhaust every last hope available until God takes Charlie home not a fn bureaucracy and National Health Service single paying zealots!
Terri Schiavo will haunt JEB as long as he lives.
Right - I knew it was Teri something. Jeb has no conscience so I doubt it.
Because of my background, I have seen/know of many cases where hospitals refuse to fully treat people they deem not worth it.
Delay tests and decision making and consults. Reduce water, oxygen, nourishment enough to weaken.
Throw cheapest broad spectrum antibiotic at patient without culture or sensitivity.
I have had calls from various people in various states with stories of refusal to treat, put patient in room without paliative care to wripthe in pain until die.
Beware. It is here!
Only the well heeled and/or well connected will get good care.
Soon: All those over 50, ill, Christian, ________________, will be eliminated.
Sure, it's the best health care in the world if you can afford it—although even then many are over treated so the physician's can make their yacht payments. Obama managed to make a bad, inequitable situation catastrophic for many, especially our middle class and young people. Death rates are rising, and addiction rates and numbers deaths by overdose soaring. Many folks in the trades are treating themselves for chronic pain conditions they acquire after years of physical labor because they can't afford medical insurance and recommended surgeries due to the high deductibles and ridiculous monthly rates.
Let me guess...malpractice lawyer?
Even guess should have some logic to the choice.
Truly, but I was not going there.
Hannity was one of the few in the media who supported Terri and her parents.
