The trade in dog meat South Korea doesn't want Olympics to see
The Daily Mail ^ | 6 February 2018 | Nick Fagge

Dogs and even puppies are sold openly for food in Moran market, Seongnam, outside of Seoul, South Korea, Dailymail.com reveals - showing claims it would be closed last May are false

The dogs are kept in freezing, dark cages until they are slaughtered, their fur burned off and their carcasses are put on display

Up to 80,000 dogs are sold and slaughtered at the market a each year to be made into an $8 soup, which folklore claims boosts eaters' sex drive

But ahead of the Olympic Winter Games coming to PyeongChang on Friday, officials issued guidelines for when it comes to eating dog meat, urging citizens not to consume the animals during the Olympics

Two-month-old puppies fare little better, being sold for just $9.20 or £6.50 out of metal crates and cardboard boxes, with some saying they can be eaten too

These are the images South Korean Olympics organizers do not want you to see – dogs being slaughtered and sold for food just 70 miles from where the Games begin on Friday. Dogs and even puppies are sold openly for food in Moran market, Seongnam, the country's largest open-air dog market - contradicting claims made last year by local authorities that it was closing.

Up to 80,000 dogs are sold and slaughtered at the market each year, to be made into a soup which folklore claims boosts the eater's sex drive.

Acutely aware of the worldwide reaction to eating dog meat, Korean authorities have urged citizens not to consume the animals during the Olympics – but DailyMail.com's pictures show their request is futile.

Why do so many posts wind up with duplicated text? The story goes several paragraphs and then repeats. This happens for loads of posts, so there must be something about FR software that makes this normal. It sure wastes a lot of space and time.

I could go for a hot dog with ketchup and mustard, chips and a soda.

Dogs in NK are raised for food, with the pelt having to go to the government for use in Winter clothing.

If you want disgusting, Yulin, China has a Summer [~Solstice] Dog Fest. Do a search for video news reports about it.

I saw one a few years ago, and am not sure if some of the footage was produced by NBC news grifters..., but the hot Asian chick talking with a strata of people - from enthusiasts to people buying (saving) live dogs before slaughter - seemed real enough.

“With Lolo, I learned how to eat small green chill peppers raw with dinner (plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy). Like many Indonesians, Lolo followed a brand of Islam that could make room for the remnants of more ancient animist and Hindu faiths. He explained that a man took on the powers of whatever he ate: One day soon, he promised, he would bring home a piece of tiger meat for us to share.”

Definitely I would not order hot dogs at any of the concession stands at the Olympic venues.

To each his own. Hindus find beef consumption not just disgusting, but a mortal sin, which is why some will kill over it. I love dogs, but I don’t mistake my kinship with dogs for some universal phenomenon. Some see them as pets, some as vermin, and others as working animals or food.

Your worries are unfounded. Dog meat will always be more expensive than beef. The feed-conversion ratio (i.e. $ equivalent of animal feed per pound of meat yield) is much higher for dogs because they need to be fed meat. That ratio is why we eat chicken, pork and beef rather than tiger or lion meat. It’s also why you’ll never be fed exotic meats in a Chinese or Korean restaurant. They view these meats as luxury foods. You’re as likely to get fed dog meat as you are to be be fed hamburger ground from a filet mignon steak at Mickey D’s.

I have no issue with them eating dogs; other countries don’t have the same supply of livestock that we have.

It’s a heartless, horrible, disgusting practice, which is what Asian Indians would say about our eating beef. Still, I wish they’d knock it off.

I spent a year in ROK in 69-70 in USAF. After being there a while I noticed that the only dogs I saw or heard were our K-9 units on sentry duty. Asked around and learned that dog is a delicacy there. This was after being invited to dinner by my houseboy in Suwon City where I let him order for me. I was able to eat most of my dinner after telling him I didn’t want to know what it was. So I assume I unknowingly ate some.

At least the South Koreans aren’t eating DIRT, TREE BARK, HUMAN FLESH, or picking and eating undigested bits of food picked out of human excrement like millions upon millions of starving, malnurished North Koreans living under the brutal tyranny and dictatorship of a mad man and Stalinist communism do on a daily basis!
