The Blogger Behind the Obama Hit Job (Time Hit Job on Corsi)
Time via CNN ^ | August 24, 2008 | Claire Suddath

Posted on 08/26/2008 11:52:19 AM PDT by rightwingintelligentsia

Larry Martin owns Frontera Bar and Grill, a Tex-Mex restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. He imports mesquite charcoal from San Francisco and, he says, "serves peace love and American hegemony, one plate of tacos at a time" to Malaysian customers. In his spare time, he writes a semi-anonymous blog, An American Expat in Southeast Asia, on which he rails against mainstream American media, multiculturalism — and Barack Obama. And that is how Martin has come to the attention of a broader audience. His blog is repeatedly cited as a source in Jerome R. Corsi's best-selling anti-Obama book, Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality.

Corsi's publisher Simon & Schuster has touted Obama Nation — which currently sits atop the New York Times' best-seller list — as "thoroughly researched and documented." Indeed, the book's 680 footnotes seem to support that claim. But misstatements and inaccuracies — including at least eight major errors in the first 50 pages — have thrown considerable doubt on the book's credibility. So has the author's dependence on less-than-authoritative sources, among them Martin's blog.

The first mention of Martin's blog comes on Page 52 of Obama Nation, when it is cited as the source for Corsi's assertion that when Obama's Muslim stepfather registered him at a Catholic school in Indonesia, Obama's religion was recorded as "Islam." No one disputes that. In fact, Martin is not the only one who reported the information; on Jan. 25, 2007, the same day that Martin posted it on his blog, the Associated Press reported the same information, from the Fransiskus Assisi Catholic school, and ran a photograph of the document.

Talk about selective reporting. There are plenty of other facts regarding whether Bambi practiced Islam in his childhood. Daniel Pipes has done a good summary.

Did they ever explain what those eight major errors were? (And, yes, I'm too lazy to click on the link and read the article for myself).

Well. I guess this looks pretty much like a hit job on me now.

I suppose it it to be expected that Ms. Suddath had her own agenda even though she vehemently denied it when I spoke to her.

In any event, I'm misquoted a couple times and her information is incorrect.

It’s a nice article. It seems to verify everything Americanexpat has written. It doesn’t contradict anything. It doesn’t even disprove a single contention made in Unfit for Command. But then no one ever has.

Are Khalid al Mansour and Obama Friends?

Posted by:
Amanda Carpenter at 12:45 PM
Civil rights activist Percy Sutton said he was solicited by a man named Dr. Khalid al Mansour to send a letter of reccomendation on behalf of Barack Obama to help him gain acceptance to Harvard many years ago. (This video and transcript is at the bottom of the post),

But who is Khalid al Mansour and how did he know Barack Obama? A cursory search on Youtube turns up several controversial clips, in the vein of Obama’s longtime friend and former pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright. One of these videos is more than an hour long, but I am going to post here before I watch/transcribe everything in the interest in getting this into the hands of other bloggers who may know who this guy is. Here’s what I found:

#1 video video, uploaded by someone named IslamStudios, al Mansour opines on how white Jews and black Jews look:

#2 video, uploaded by MuslimbyChoice:

#3 video, uploaded by IslamStudios and titled “Christians Designed Discrimination:”

Here is the video of Sutton saying al Mansour asked him to help Obama.

In the above video Sutton says: “I was introduced to him by a friend who was raising money for him and the friends name was Dr. Khalid al Mansour from Texas. He is the principle adviser to one of the world’s richest men. He told me about Obama. He wrote to me about him and his introduction was ‘there is a young man that has applied to Harvard and I know that you have a few friends left there becasue you used to go up there to speak, would you please write a letter in support of him?’...I wrote a letter in support of him to my friends at Harvard saying ot them I thought there was a genius that was going to be available and I sure hoped they would treat him kindly.”

No, and although the article is very negative toward the book, not one erroneous matter from the book is identified. Time readers are just supposed to dismiss the book out of hand. The article is just talking points from the dims.

Many Catholic schools in early 1970s didn't necessarily have any Islamic teacher. Students, regardless their faith, knew that they would be taught Catholicism or religion in general. It was in the 1990s that the Indonesian Government established a law that required students to get religion lessons according to their belief. It is common, however, even in 1970s, that parents sent their kids to two schools: a public (or Catholic) school in the morning and Islamic school (or at least Islamic lessons called ngaji) in the afternoon or evening.

In an interview with the New York Times, Maya Soetoro-Ng, Obama’s younger half sister, told the Times, “My whole family was Muslim, and most of the people I knew were Muslim.”

I assume Maya thinks of her brother, Obama, as a member of her family?

Although Anna Dunham is often described as an atheist, I assume Maya thinks of her mother as a member of her family, as well.

How else would one interpret that statement?

I haven’t even read your blog, although since you are a longtime Freeper you automatically start with a one-thumb-up rating. For the MSM (LSM really) to commission and print this crude, non-contentionary wackjob must mean you are doing something right!

It's fascinating if 'no one disputes that' to consider if that relevant fact can be found anywhere in MSM bios of Obama. Anyone report it? Anywhere?

Corsi cited a blog because nobody else was out there saying it. Expatguy looked at the record, and reported what he found. Corsi is merely reporting on the Obama the MSM wants to whitewash.

“Don’t tell me; the “reporter” mentions no whoppers of these 8 “errors”. “

Lazy reporter. Just doing the cut-n-paste from the Obama ‘rebuttal’. The ‘muslim in Indonesian school’ is one such ‘lie’ that Obama rebuttal gives, yet the dont dipsute the underlying FACT that obama was in fact listed as a Muslim when registering for school. Reading the rebuttal by Obama camp is convincing evidence the book hits home. The ‘major errors’ are neither.

Actually, we need to organize our own “rapid response” team - - completely apart from FreeRepublic.

Communicating through our blog emails, we need to identify a theme (or two) and loosely coordinate a response to these free expression attacks.
