DIETRICH, Idaho - A Dietrich science teacher is being investigated by the states professional standards commission after a complaint from parents over his teaching methods.
Tim McDaniel is being investigated after a complaint was filed by a handful of parents who objected to how McDaniel taught the reproductive system, Dietrich Superintendent Neil Hollingshead said.
It is highly unlikely it would end with his dismissal, Hollingshead said. Maybe a letter of reprimand from the school board.
According to McDaniel, four parents were offended that he explained the biology of an orgasm and included the word vagina during his lesson on the human reproductive system in a tenth-grade biology course.
I teach straight out of the textbook, I dont include anything that the textbook doesnt mention, McDaniel said. But I give every student the option not attend this class when I teach on the reproductive system if they dont feel comfortable with the material.
would they have preferred, “kitty?” this is a tenth-grade class... my boys knew the word vagina as soon as they started potting training...
“potty” training! ugh!
I think he focused on how orgasms work.....glad your boys know everything but some people are a bit more old fashioned and reserved for teachers to be teaching orgasms in class....
Sorry but this is for PARENTS to teach!!!!!!! Some DOOFUS teacher has no business teaching this to kids.
Tunnel of wonder.
Just asking....WHY in the HELL would YOUR 2 year old BOYS need to know “Vagina”??? OMG!!! ARe ALL parents CRAY these days???
“potty training! ugh!”
I didn’t think you would have taught them about vaginas while doing the gardening! LOL.
We’ve had ‘the talk’ just this week...and made sure I showed a vid of the development of a baby (pro life vid that’s just awesome). Our kid was amazed. ;-)
"Did you call us beavers on your CB? I hate that. I hate when they call us beavers ."
hahaha! you never know... the diagram of a flower is a good way to introduce the reproductive system... fertilization and all... :)
precisely why we didn't leave our sons' educations up to the government... or anybody else for that matter... we are very old fashioned and choose to do school the very old fashioned way...
the teacher said he teaches right out of the text book... parents can look through the text book to see what their kids will be learning through the year... i am sure some do take the time to do that... obviously, not everybody does...
i do not mean to dismiss this mishap, but i do not understand why some parents, particularly conservative parents, do not take more control of what goes into the minds of their babies...
it's not that they NEEDED to know... but when they were learning to "go potty," they learned the parts of the body that it entailed... for them it entailed the penis. my sons are very verbal. (at just 18-months, my youngest son had just over an 800-word vocabulary)... so in their little 2-year old voices, they said something like, "mommy has a penis," i corrected them. "mommy doesn't have a penis." "why?" they probably asked. "because only males have penises. mommy is a female." i probably responded. "how does mommy go potty?" they inquired. "mommy has a vagina." and i'm sure they said something like, "oh."
had they not inquired, i wouldn't have told them.
i don't why you think it's so "crazy" to teach the proper name of a body part to a 2-year old. my oldest son is 17... he is smart, sweet, hard-working, excellent-mannered, gentlemanly to everybody... and he has yet to kiss a girl... it did not ruin him to know the name of the body part, "vagina."
well, i didn't teach them that until they started asking about ejaculation...
