Paying union dues and baking a wedding cake may not seem like classic examples of free speechexcept perhaps at the Supreme Court.
This year, the high court is poised to announce its most significant expansion of the 1st Amendment since the Citizens United decision in 2010, which struck down laws that limited campaign spending by corporations, unions and the very wealthy.

All states should be right-to-work states.
Lets hope union thuggery and terrorism finally ends with the Trump Administration.
This major revenue stream for the Democratic Party is critical for corruption in America, so the Constitution must be ignored./s?
OTOH neither a wedding cake, flowers nor photographs even remotely resemble a "human right" and,therefore...given the basic amorality of their lives...a provider of such services absolutely has a moral right to refuse to serve them and, therefore, should have the legal right to deny them services.
This would be a dream come true. We have been waiting many years for this.
On a related matter, did anyone else notice during the SOTUS last week that Justice Gorsuch looked like his was really TICKED OFF when he was looking at POTUS? I wonder what is going on there?
They are supposed to remain stoic during the SOTU.
Before the speech, he looked like a kid at the toy store
Gorsuch is probably seething at the briar patch the President has placed him in. Must be extremely hard for him to keep a level head and maintain his honor and integrity in the face of joining a weoponized group of judges.
Hold fast, help is on the way, oh that President Trump may replace 2,3,4? Justices in his first term! Drain that Swamp! MAGA!
If this does come to pass how do I sue the fn Teamsters to get the $15,000 back that they unconstitutionally extorted from me?
You don’t. This ruling does not apply to the private sector. Why did you not work for a non union company?
Morality and legality are two different issues and one should not dictate the other. The owner of an ambulance service may have a moral obligation to help a pervert as you say but that does not mean that morality should be law. I believe homosexuality is immoral but I do not believe we should have laws against. Speeding is illegal but not immoral. Morality is the realm of religion and individual conscience. Laws are the application of state power to maintain an just society. They should be not intertwined.
I hope the NeverTrumpers here, you know, the ones that think Trump is an idiot for wanting a military parade, understand that if they had gotten their way, these cases would be A LOST CAUSE.
I do pray someday that the otherwise-conservative NeverTrumpers finally figure out that Trump is the best guy they’ve had in office in a generation, maybe many generations...
A bakery or photographer is just saying they would rather not enter into a contract with the buyer from the get go.
Expansion of the 1st Amendment via judicial meddling ought not be tolerated — all it does is erode the Constitution to allow the Judiciary to usurp power.
The Constitution very clearly says who has legislative power (Art 1, Sec 1)
All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.; it also says how the Constitution may be amended (Art 5) — You'll note that the Supreme Court is conspicuously absent from both cited portions. (The big lie that they've forced on everybody is that the supreme court is superior in authority to the Constitution.)
They had better.
Unfortunately, I don’t trust Roberts.
So far Trump is the best POTUS in my lifetime, and I didn’t think much of him when he got the nomination. I guess he kinda grows on ya.
Yea, all of us were somewhat nervous, especially given the way that the past 2 Republicans spit on us. And then we also had Arnold in California who acted conservative to win, then became a Leftist over there.
But just the opposite with Trump! He had a spotty record, given what was necessary to get building permits in NYC, but man, he’s on a TOTAL ROLL as President. Any ‘conservative’ who still has issues with him is very, very, demented.
The NeverTrumpers don’t want a parade? What’s not to like about a parade? Even the National Review intellectuals want it to happen.
“The NeverTrumpers dont want a parade? Whats not to like about a parade? Even the National Review intellectuals want it to happen.”
Look at this thread, they seem EMBARRASSED by us showing off our hardware...so they come up with excuses, like ‘it costs too much’ or ‘only third world countries do that’. Sickening...but it shows that the Left is even able to penetrate our friends.
