Democratic Iowa gubernatorial candidate Nate Boulton has been accused of sexual misconduct by three women, the Des Moines Register reported Wednesday. Three women told the newspaper that Boulton, one of multiple Democrats running in June's primary for his party's nomination, touched them in a sexual manner without their consent. One woman said Boulton repeatedly grabbed her from behind at a bar in 2015, while two others say the candidate inappropriately touched them more than a decade ago when they and Boulton were students together in law school.

n allegation that a white Texas state trooper sexually assaulted a black woman last weekend in Waxahachie went viral on social media. But after the Department of Public Safety published the full body-cam video of the incident, Sherita Dixon-Cole's attorney, Lee Merritt, apologized online and said that the trooper in question had been "falsely accused."
  • NFLPA will “challenge any aspect” of anthem policy inconsistent with CBA

The NFL released a statement outlining a new anthem policy agreed to in a unanimous vote of league owners at this week’s meetings in Atlanta. The policy calls for everyone on the field for the song to “stand and show respect,” but allows for players and other personnel to remain off the field if they choose. It also calls for the league to fine teams whose personnel do not “stand and show respect” and allows teams to set their own “work rules” for players who do not stand for the song. After the NFL released its statement, the NFLPA responded...

President Obama helped debut the new presidential twitter account yesterday. In the hours following its birth the account gained more than a million followers. One of those followers was not and likely never will be the @meninist account. Meninist, a twitter account that presumably allies itself with the men’s’ rights movement, was blocked by the official POTUS account. This means that the Meninist, which follows no accounts, cannot follow @POTUS, nor can it see the account’s tweets. Boom! That’s how you win Twitter.

Washington (CNN)Former Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez won her runoff and became the Democratic nominee for Texas governor Tuesday night, making her the first openly lesbian and Latina nominee to win a major party gubernatorial nomination in the state. Valdez won 53.1% of the vote while her competitor, Andrew White, obtained 46.9%, according to unofficial election results. Valdez, a former US Army captain, accepted the nomination in a speech Tuesday evening, during which she advocated for equal opportunities for Texans. "Tonight is a victory for all of us who are fighting for a stronger and fairer Texas. A tolerant and...

A plastic surgeon who filmed herself singing and dancing around the operating table as she performed procedures was accused of leaving a patient with “catastrophic” brain damage. Dr. Windell Davis Boutte uploaded over 20 clips of herself prancing around next to patients while singing along to hip-hop tunes. She even sliced someone open for the camera as “Cut It” by O.T. Genasis blared out in the background. Icilma Cornelius suffered heart failure after being pushed into having a pre-wedding tummy tuck at Boutte’s clinic in Lilburn, Georgia, in February 2016, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The 55-year-old’s heart stopped eight hours...

The lion’s share of so-called ‘caravan migrants’ are said to have broken into the U.S. Homeland Security officials say up to 450 illegal aliens from the group have arrived in the U.S. Officials say at least 200 intruders will be released under the ‘catch-and-release’ program. Some 1,500 migrants traveled with the caravan from Central America through Mexico. 330 of them are said to have entered the U.S. through border checkpoints, while 122 illegals jumped the border. Officials said they can only press charges against several dozen of the illegals due to weak immigration laws. “Entering this country illegally is a...

A group of veterans from the Vietnam War who recently met for a reunion in Florida are searching for one of their comrades who they only knew by a nickname. 'Louisiana' is seen in photos with curly brown hair and a goofy face and his friends from the war remember the warm personality he had during the dark times. 'The picture represents the beautiful grin he had almost all the time,' said veteran James Garvin - who took the photo - to WBRZ. According to a Facebook post from wife Susan Waldrop Garvin, 'Louisiana' was a grunt on the ground,...

"We are committed to reducing the spread of false news on Facebook. We remove fake accounts and disrupt economic incentives for people that share misinformation. We also use signals, like feedback from our community, to identify stories that may be false. In countries where we work with independent third-party fact-checkers, stories rated as false by those fact-checkers are shown lower in News Feed. If Pages or domains repeatedly create or share misinformation, we significantly reduce their distribution and remove their advertising rights. We're also working to empower people to decide for themselves what to read, trust and share by giving...
  • Howie Carr: FBI ‘protection’ of Trump in 2016 is a laugh

Talk about ungrateful — for some reason President Trump doesn’t appreciate how the FBI tried to help him out in 2016 by inserting a spy, I mean informant, into his campaign. As the Washington Post headline explained this charitable deed: “The FBI didn’t use an informant to go after Trump. They used one to protect him.” Of course they did. The crooked G-men are there to protect you, Mr. President. I should know, because they’ve been “protecting” me, off and on, since 1975. And they’re such good people — the feds prefer to remain anonymous. They want no credit for...
  • Climate change could be driving antibiotic resistance across the US

Climate change is wreaking havoc across the globe - melting ice caps, causing dangerous weather and decimating animal populations. New research has found that it could also be increasing antibiotic resistance in bacteria. A team of epidemiologists from Harvard Medical School, Boston Children's Hospital and the University of Toronto have found that higher local temperatures and population densities correspond with a higher degree of antibiotic resistance in common bacterial strains. Previously, increase in resistance to common bacteria was thought to come from over-prescribing antibiotics. 'The effects of climate are increasingly being recognized in a variety of infectious diseases, but so...
  • Bodycam video reveals woman lied about being raped by cop who pulled her over for DUI [tr]

A woman in Texas made a startling claim earlier this week accusing a state trooper of raping her during a DWI arrest, but a newly released body camera footage has exposed her claims as lies and prompted her high-profile lawyer to issue a public apology. The Texas Department of Public Safety said in a statement on Tuesday that just after 1.30am on Sunday, Texas highway Patrol Trooper Daniel Hubbard saw a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu traveling south on Interstate 35 in Ellis County and pulled the vehicle over for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, Hubbard arrested the driver, identified...

Last week, a congressman from Alabama who serves on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology suggested in a public hearing that sea level rise may be caused by erosion - a possibility experts rate somewhere between absurd and laughable. But it’s hardly surprising. The willingness of climate change skeptics to grasp onto any alternative other than a warming planet fueled by greenhouse gas emissions (along with melting ice and oceans expanding as they warm) is commonly observed. Closer to home, the Chesapeake Bay is surrounded by towns and villages where the politically conservative residents refuse to accept scientific...
  • Earth's Shifting Crust Linked to Climate Change, Scientists Propose

Movements of the earth's crust may mean that global warming driven by greenhouse gases from power stations and vehicle exhausts isn't the only threat to life the world faces. About 700 million years ago, global temperatures fell so low that glaciers may have reached the equator. Snowball Earth may have all but extinguished life on the planet. But the only life at the time was microbial and dispersed in the oceans. The planet survived: volcanic eruptions may have darkened the ice and pumped more carbon dioxide and steam into the atmosphere, and the world warmed again. But, say two Texan...

Corporate reports constantly talk about the importance to business of climate change. Yet this is not always reflected in the content of the business school courses supposedly preparing the future leaders of organizations. One institution that is trying to bridge the gap is CEMS, the global alliance of academic and corporate bodies dedicated to educating and preparing future generations of international business leaders. In fact, it has been doing it since 2009, when the University of St Gallen and ESADE in Barcelona first held a model United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to enable students to get to grips...

New York has a major opportunity to lead the nation in reducing emissions and to strike a blow against inequality by making significant and bold investments in public transit across the state. Transportation is now the top climate culprit in New York state, responsible for more greenhouse-gas emissions than power plants. While our state is ramping up investments in renewable energy, moving people cleanly and efficiently is absolutely critical too. We must address this need by expanding public transit in ways that will also create family-sustaining employment options, improved public health, safety and mobility. The climate crisis and the transportation...

NBA star LeBron James appeared to snub a fan wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat at Game 3 of the NBA playoffs Saturday by beginning to toss his towel to the Trump supporter — before throwing it in another direction, out of the fan’s reach. James, no supporter of President Donald Trump, made clear last year his thoughts on the Republican president, for whom his home state of Ohio voted for in 2016. “I don’t think a lot of people was educated,” James said of Trump voters. “And I think that’s one of the biggest problems when it becomes...

President Donald Trump is set to bump up his request for (FY 19) border-wall funding by $500 million, a new report says. The president will request at least $2.2 billion to build the wall in the budget for the next fiscal year, which begins in September, according to Politico.
