State Rep. Jeanne Ives, who is running against Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner in the Republican primary, released the ad on Saturday. Pope Francis received a victim’s letter in 2015 that graphically detailed sexual abuse at the hands of a priest and a cover-up by Chilean church authorities, contradicting the Pope’s recent insistence that no victims had come forward, the letter’s author and members of Pope Francis’ own sex- abuse commission have told The Associated Press. The fact that Pope Francis received the eight-page letter, obtained by the AP, challenges his insistence that he has “zero tolerance” for sex abuse and cover-ups. It also calls into question his stated empathy with abuse survivors, compounding the most serious crisis of his five-year papacy....

From the moment President Trump took office, many Democrat politicians, celebrities, and media mavens have worked to stop anything Trump. Democrats, hoping to capitalize on the anti-Trump excitement in their base, staged a coordinated "Summer of Resistance" across the country aimed at countering the agenda of President Trump and the GOP-led Congress. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi kicked off the effort at a rally in Dallas saying, "This Trump complained, “I hope that Democrats will stop the obstruction and resistance – in fact that’s what they have, they have a sign ‘resist, resist’ - they want to resist everything,...

Delaware is considering adopting a policy that will let young students in school choose whatever name, gender, or race they want under a veil of school protection mandating that the parents not be informed of these decisions unless the student explicitly wishes the parent be included.Drafted by Delaware Gov. John Carney, the anti-discrimination policy states that children from K-12 can choose their own name, identify with whatever race or gender they feel most comfortable with, and even access hormone blockers necessary to transition without the consent of their parents. Regulation 225 “Prohibition Of Discrimination” also indicates that students will be able to join...

Blame the ex-Police man. A song by the band’s former frontman Sting sparked a wild brawl between a Florida couple that culminated with a man chomping down on his boyfriend’s lip. Byron Haynes and his live-in beau, Yakeme Moore, were bickering inside their home in the seaside city of Bradenton Sunday, when Haynes, for some reason, flipped out when he heard the singer’s 1985 tune, “If You Love Somebody Set Them Free,” according to documents posted by The Smoking Gun.

Coca-Cola’s new Super Bowl commercial celebrates the diversity of the LGBTQIA community — along with a special wink-wink, nod-nod to the non-binary/transgender crowd. The commercial, which is scheduled to air during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game, includes a same-sex couple and a person who identifies with the pronoun “them.”The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports it may be the first time the soft drink giant has referred to a person in a major commercial with that pronoun.Coke spokeswoman Kate Hartman told the company wasn’t seeking to overtly highlight any particular group. “People who are viewing it will take each scene and interpret...

The ad marks a sharp public shift to the right in Ives’ campaign. Ives had been gaining attention following a debate with Rauner at the Chicago Tribune last week. And her sharp critiques of the governor were used in a digital ad by Democratic gubernatorial candidate J.B. Pritzker. “Thank you for legislation that lets me use the girls’ bathroom,” says a man in the new ad, dressed in a woman’s red dress. That targeted a House bill Rauner signed into law which allows transgender citizens to change their gender designation without going through gender reassignment or gender confirmation surgery. “Thank...

After sexual misconduct allegations were leveled against his husband late last year, Senate President Stan Rosenberg reassured his colleagues about a key concern: His husband, Bryon Hefner, had no influence on Senate business. But according to interviews with those who dealt with Hefner, and communications reviewed by the Globe, Hefner was deeply involved in matters that Rosenberg had vowed to bar him from when he ascended to the presidency in 2015. They reveal that Hefner had full access to Rosenberg’s e-mails, attempted to affect the state budget, and involved himself in the workings of his husband’s office, as well as...

"It's hard to find 'the one' here," Liam Anderson tells Newsbeat. The 22-year-old is gay and a born and bred Shetlander. We meet him at his home in Voe, a small remote settlement on the west coast of the island, where his house looks over a loch and his neighbours are mainly sheep. "It's been a brilliant place to grow up, the nature is beautiful and very inspiring. But dating is difficult," he says. Around 22,000 people live in Shetland. ... There is no gay scene on the island, and no gay bar, so Liam decided to set up a...

Washington State has followed suit, and similar third-gender options are under consideration in New...

LGBT media outlets are implying the Trump administration is responsible for reports that the LGBT homicide rate doubled from 2016 to 2017. The media reports are citing an 86 percent increase in homicides, indicating a disturbing and sudden rise in violence. The details are laid out in a report from the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs titled, “A crisis of hate a report on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and Queer Hate Violence Homicides in 2017.” But a closer look at those details, as is often the case, reveals some problems with the conclusion drawn in the headline. In 2016 there...

A Republican lawmaker trying to unseat Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner is standing by a campaign ad that’s being blasted as racist, homophobic and “repulsive.” State Rep. Jeanne Ives, a social and fiscal conservative, says the ad that began airing this weekend illustrates the GOP governor’s “chosen constituents based on the policy choices he made.” The ad features actors portraying people including a transgender woman and a Chicago Teachers Union member, all thanking Rauner. The deep-voiced transgender woman, wearing a dress that reveals a hairy chest, says “Thank you for signing legislation that lets me use the girl’s bathroom.” …

You are here checking out this post, so I guess you do want to know. I was listening to conservative talk radio hosts Michael Medved today to see if he would admit he was wrong about corruption in the FBI. Nope, he did not. He said "I have no idea why Trump released THE STUPID THING in his angry voice." He went on seeing how the Dozier was only a small part of getting the fisa warrant. He was saying that releasing this memo hurts Trump's agenda and does not help it. By the way, I was also listening to...

Amazon has trimmed its list of potential cities for its second headquarters down to twenty. But one group of gay activists is pressuring the company to avoid some of the locations that made the cut. The tech behemoth, currently headquartered in Seattle, launched a public search for the site of its second headquarters, or HQ2, last year. It said it would spend $50 billion on constructing the new headquarters and is expecting to hire a workforce of 50,000 people. When the company requested proposals, more than 238 cities from across North America responded.
