An exchange-traded security which is supposed to be a bet on calm markets was collapsing after hours. The VelocityShares Daily Inverse VIX Short-Term exchange-traded note (XIV) is down more than 80 percent in extended trading Monday. The security, issued by Credit Suisse, is supposed to give the opposite return of the Cboe Volatility index (VIX), the market's widely followed turbulence gauge. The VIX doubled during regular market hours Monday, causing obvious havoc for a product seeking to track its inverse return. Though, the XIV dropped just 14 percent during regular trading. But then after hours trading began and the security,...

Video at link is Fox News Alert and is 13 minutes in length. The video is carried on citizen Youtube channel BPearthwatch. Sean Hannity says there is a second memo out (not the DNC response to the first). Hannity does a fair job of interpreting the first memo and untangling counterclaims, hi-lighting bad actors etc.

"""This Policy Will Let Kids In School Choose Whatever Gender Or Race They Want Without Their Parents’ Knowledge""" Delaware is considering adopting a policy that will let young students in school choose whatever name, gender, or race they want under a veil of school protection mandating that the parents not be informed of these decisions unless the student explicitly wishes the parent be included. Drafted by Delaware Gov. John Carney, the anti-discrimination policy states that children from K-12 can choose their own name, identify with whatever race or gender they feel most comfortable with, and even access hormone blockers necessary...

To Palestinians and their supporters, hers is the face of a hero, a new symbol of resistance. But many Israelis call 17-year-old Ahed Tamimi "Shirley Temper" after viewing videos showing the girl angrily lashing out at Israeli soldiers. The long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict has always been about competing narratives, and in this age of social media and viral videos, Ahed's defiance has made her into something of a star in the Arab world and beyond. The blond-haired, blue-eyed Palestinian girl spent her 17th birthday inside an Israeli military prison last week, where she, along with her mother, await trial on Feb....

In a statement meant to dare the Trump administration, Kennedy declared, “Build a wall and my generation will tear it down. Yet the young congressman failed to mention that generations of Kennedys preceding him have enjoyed the protections and sanctity provided by walls and extra security at compounds stretching from Cape Cod to Palm Beach.

Undifferentiated bulk surveillance is the governmental acquisition of fiber-optic data stored and transmitted by nearly everyone in America. This includes all telephone conversations, text messages and emails, as well as all medical, legal and financial records. Congress recently passed and President Donald Trump signed a vast expansion of spying authorities — an expansion that authorizes legislatively the domestic spying that judges were authorizing on everyone in the U.S. without individual suspicion of wrongdoing or probable cause of crime; an expansion that passed in the Senate with no votes to spare; an expansion that evades and avoids the Fourth Amendment; an...

  • The Districts That Will Determine the Next House Majority

Republicans 221 Democrats 195 Toss-Ups 19 In sketching out a potential path to a bare Democratic House majority of 218 seats out of 435, we found that in all likelihood the Democrats will need to win similar numbers of Republican-held seats won by Hillary Clinton as well as by Donald Trump in the last presidential election. Clinton-won districts are not enough on their own. Democrats should gain seats, but on the face of the seats currently available to flip, we’re unsure if they can net the 24 seats they need to win control.

  • Polar bears need lots of seal snacks — and a melting Arctic makes it hard to eat enough

    02/01/2018 1:57:31 PM PST · by rktman · 60 replies ^ | 2/1/2018 | Alessandra Potenza
In the spring, during their prime hunting season, polar bears need an insanely large amount of food to stay healthy — over 12,000 kilocalories a day, or roughly 6,000 times what humans need, according to new research. That’s a lot more than what scientists previously thought these predators needed to stay healthy. And that means that, as Arctic ice keeps melting because of rising temperatures, polar bears may be in more trouble than we had anticipated. In April of 2014, 2015, and 2016, researchers tracked nine female polar bears living on the sea ice of the Beaufort Sea, off the...

  • Marriage: America’s Greatest Weapon Against Child Poverty

    Heritage Foundation ^ | September 5, 2012 | Robert Rector
Abstract: Child poverty is an ongoing national concern, but few are aware that its principal cause is the absence of married fathers in the home. Marriage remains America’s strongest anti-poverty weapon, yet it continues to decline. As husbands disappear from the home, poverty and welfare dependence will increase, and children and parents will suffer as a result. Since marital decline drives up child poverty and welfare dependence, and since the poor aspire to healthy marriage but lack the norms, understanding, and skills to achieve it, it is reasonable for government to take active steps to strengthen marriage. Just as government...
