  • Kevin Stadler's broken club accidentally hits spectator in head, causes stitches

The final event of the Tour regular season is stressful enough without a bizarre and unlikely incident that went down in the second round. There were rumblings on social media Friday evening that Kevin Stadler had an unfortunate accident at the WinCo Foods Portland Open involving a golf club and a fan......

LONG POND, PA.—Canadian rookie Robert Wickens went soaring into the fence at Pocono Raceway in a scary wreck that brought Sunday’s IndyCar race to a halt. Wickens connected with Ryan Hunter-Reay and shot into a 360-degree spin into the fence. The fence was destroyed and parts of Wickens’ Honda scattered over the track. Wickens was taken to a local hospital by ambulance. Hunter-Reay, Canadian James Hinchcliffe and Takuma Sato were among the drivers involved in the wreck. Hinchcliffe seemed to be in pain, grabbing his wrists as he slowly left his car. What an awful crash. My thoughts and prayers...

Walt Harris, the voice of the most popular period of pro wrestling in Northern California and best known nationally as the host of the syndicated Roller Derby shows, passed away last night at the age of 97... Harris was the sole announcer for National All Star Wrestling and Big Time Wrestling in the 1960s that aired on KTVU, Ch. 2 in San Francisco, and KCRA, Ch. 3, in Sacramento, and were syndicated at times in cities like Honolulu, Phoenix, and other West Coast markets. He had already been the Roller Derby announcer on that station for a few years and...

This is Sister Mary Jo Sobieck, and she just authored one of the most epic first pitches we’ve seen this season or any other season. That’s not even up for debate. It’s an undisputed fact after she stole the show before the Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox could even take the field Saturday night at Guaranteed Rate Field.
  • WVU Postpones Football Fan Day Over Hand, Foot And Mouth Disease Outbrea

The WVU Athletic Department says five cases of hand, foot and mouth disease have been identified within the school’s football program. Because the disease is highly contagious, the Athletic Department says it is in “the best interest of the general public to postpone the event.” In July, more than a dozen people were infected with hand, foot and mouth disease at a summer school program for Pittsburgh Public Schools in Mount Oliver. At least 10 students and six staff members caught the disease. The building was disinfected and the district says it’s confident the building is now safe for students.

After spending about $100 on lower-bowl tickets and driving 2½ hours from the Lafayette area, Tracey Hernandez was nervous as she took her seat near midfield of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Friday night. It wasn’t the preseason game the Saints were about to play against Arizona that worried her — the dance instructor hardly watches football. What mattered to her was how her son, Jesse, would fare in his debut as the first-ever male member of the Saintsations, New Orleans’ NFL dance team.

ESPN has found a way to keep from being in the middle of any national anthem controversies on their air this year — by not putting it on their air. According to Sara Fischer of, ESPN president Jimmy Pitaro said their intention was to not show players doing whatever they may or may not be doing during the song during their Monday Night Football presentations. “We generally have not broadcasted the anthem and I don’t think that will change this year. Our plan going into this year is to not broadcast the anthem,” Pitaro said. “Again that could change....

Serena Williams is already among the best athletes of all time, so if she says she spots a winner, it's hard to ignore her. In an interview with Time magazine, Williams singled out former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick as someone who could get a Super Bowl ring -- if he were given an opportunity. Kaepernick is in the midst of a collusion grievance against NFL owners, in which he says that there has been a concerted effort to keep him out of an NFL uniform due to his protest against racial equality by kneeling during the national anthem. The form...

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Brandt Snedeker predicted low scores at the Wyndham Championship - but not this low. Snedeker shot an 11-under 59 on Thursday, falling one shot shy of matching the PGA Tour record. He made a 20-foot putt on his final hole to become the 10th player in tour history to break 60. Jim Furyk set the record with a 58 in the final round of the Travelers Championship in 2016. “I better be smiling,” Snedeker said. “I don’t do this every day.” This is the third consecutive year the PGA Tour has had a sub-60 round. Snedeker is...

One thing you learn from studying baseball history is that people have always predicted the sport’s demise. Over and over, the game weathers every perceived crisis and continues to thrive. More than 70 million fans will attend major league games this season; another 40 million or so will go to minor league games. Countless more watch the sport on television and online. And yet attendance is down, and more and more balls are being kept out of play. Some longtime observers consider the shifting landscape — hitters swinging for the fences, pitchers throwing everything with maximum effort, fielders standing in...

New York Jets' senior manager of partnerships Anthony Bulak reached out to Blue Lives Matter founder Joe Imperatrice in hopes of partnering with the organization this season only to be rejected immediately, according to The New York Post. Imperatrice refused the proposal on the grounds that the current NFL political climate does not align with the group's mission of respecting first responders. The pro-cop non-profit cited the current NFL protests as a sign of disrespect towards "our first responders, our military members both past and present and our flag."
  • The Porsche 919 Evo Just Obliterated the Nurburgring Record With a 5:19.55 Lap Time

Last year, I wrote a story about Stefan Bellof's 6:11.13 Nürburgring lap time set back in 1983 in a Porsche 956. I said it was a record that would remain unchallenged unless Porsche took its 919 LMP1 car to the 'Ring. That's exactly what it's done. Running a 5:19.55 around the famous Nordschleife, the Porsche 919 Evo driven by Timo Bernhard just obliterated the all-time record. That's 51.58 seconds faster than Bellof's time, which is almost hard to believe. Onboard footage from Bernhard's lap, which you can see below, doesn't even look like real-life, but it is. Unlike Bellof's 1983...

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Delilah Cassidy's tweet thread was building to a climactic ending. At 1:37 p.m. on May 30, Cassidy, a law student at Arizona State University, began tweeting about her experience at an airport gate en route to Phoenix from a European trip. By now, the story is internet lore. But that afternoon, she was unveiling it to the digital world tweet by tweet. She was about to board an American Airlines flight when the gate agent told her she needed to pay $50 to bring her carry-on with her. If she didn't want to pay, the agent said,...

Dear NFL, I have been a lifelong fan since the age of 10 – That’s more than 50 years…. I have followed many players, and only two teams in my life. The players I have followed have always been the “stand up for the flag” kind of players, I mean it just figures because I was drawn to serve my country – Not because I had to, or because it was my only option. I chose to serve out of nothing more than the pure love of my country. After serving onboard ships for nine years and three years with...

John Landsteiner, who competed with the U.S. Curling team in early 2018, got his ring back in Huntington Beach after flying in from Duluth, Minnesota. He also got the chance to meet the man who located the ring. Leon Jones of Buena Park made the discovery during one of his usual outings with his metal detector and then contacted the Olympian via FaceTime. Landsteiner said he came to California for the ESPY Awards and lost the Olympic ring when he visited Huntington Beach.
