GREAT FALLS— Brett Bruggeman is a Great Falls dentist who specializes in root canals. But, what may come as a surprise, is that he owns 36 sled dogs and is a musher who competes in sled dog races. Brett and his son, Spencer, coincidentally were both reading books about sled dogs at the same time about seven years ago. Spencer, being born with a birth defect in his right leg, left him unable to do traditional sports. After reading these books on sled dogs, they both realized they wanted to start a sled dog team. This is when Skinny Leg...

The lawyer for former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick said in an interview Saturday that his client still wants to play in the NFL, and predicted that the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots are likely two teams with interest. Mark Geragos, the attorney, told CNN that he believes in the next few weeks “somebody is going to step up and do the right thing.” He said that the Panthers and the Patriots could make a play for the quarterback."It would not surprise me is Bob Kraft [the owner of the Patriots] makes a move," he said.Kaepernick, who hasn’t played a down of...

Julie Stackhouse’s goal last Sunday was to win the Donna Half Marathon, a popular race that weaves through the coastal communities of Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach east of Jacksonville, Florida. Stackhouse, a Jacksonville local, had good reason to think she could break the tape—she’s won the race twice in past years, and has notched victories in the marathon and relay, too. But even before she came face-to-face with an aggressive dog, Stackhouse knew she wasn’t going to win. She estimates her canine encounter slowed her down only around 45 seconds in total, but her impressive finishing time of 1:25:54—enough...

Who says I can't How could someone born without arms or legs, who's never held a football, teach high school players how to throw, tackle or block? Rob Mendez is doing it as head coach of a California JV team. by Wayne Drehs 02/16/19 IT'S THE BIGGEST weekend of the year in Gilroy, California, with more than 100,000 people visiting for the annual garlic festival. But on this late July night, 30-year-old high school football coach Rob Mendez has a taste for sushi. A young boy holds open the door as Mendez approaches his favorite spot. The coach nods and...

A career change probably would’ve been in store for Ray Romano’s “Everybody Loves Raymond” character if the show was set today, the actor said. Romano — who played Ray Barone, a sportswriter in New York, on the popular sitcom — doesn’t think it’s likely his character would have remained a writer in the current media climate. “I think I would've quit already,” Romano told the Daily News while promoting his new movie “Paddleton.” “I think Ray Barone would've started a podcast or something.” He continued, “I don't know. He was kind of not hard-hitting enough.” “Everybody Loves Raymond” aired for...

This is not normal. Seriously. Take a basketball, inflate it to 8 PSI and see if you can press it in at all. If you use all your force with both palms you might be able to depress the ball a little, but nothing like this. Consider the situation: Zion is trying to rip the ball from an opponent. He’s not pressing against a solid object with no give. This is a human. Also the angle plays a part here too, and proves that this is all grip strength.

Even though the high temperature will likely be well below freezing today in Adrian, Michigan, you can bet that Everett Luoma, 87, will venture outside for a run. If it’s too cold for his liking, he’ll likely enjoy a longer run at the indoor track at Siena Heights University, where he serves as a volunteer assistant coach for the school’s cross-country and track teams. No matter where he gets in his workout, Luoma just needs to run—he’s kept a running streak since November, 2017, and made a log of each run ever since. Not only that, but he believes he’s...
  • The Universal Designated Hitter Would be Bad for MLB

    Last Word on Baseball ^ | February 11, 2019 | Aaron Cornett
Major League Baseball announced Wednesday that there could be many potential rule changes applied to both the American and National Leagues. One of these potential rule changes is adding the universal designated hitter (also referred to as “DH”). This would take pitchers out of NL lineups and replace them with a hitter of the manager’s choice. The AL implemented the DH in 1973, but the NL has always stayed away from it until now. This has been one of the most frequently talked about topics over the years. So let’s take a look at why the the universal designated hitter...

Just when you thought the weather at this year's AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am [2019] couldn't get any worse, it got worse. A lot worse, actually. Wind and rain on Saturday turned to hail and ice on Sunday on the Monterey Peninsula, and the final round of the tournament was suspended at 1:53 p.m. ET on Sunday. This followed an hour-long delay to start the day for more inclement weather. The photos and videos that emerged from the event were pretty wild, too. It's one thing to get hail. It's another to get it at a PGA Tour event. And it's...

No one would have expected a full-time nurse from Philadelphia to keep pace with the elites at one of the top marathons in the country, but that’s just what Samantha Roecker did in December. At the California International Marathon (CIM), which saw 99 women qualify for the Olympic Trials, the top three women finished almost exactly one minute apart. Emma Bates, who recently signed on with Asics, won in 2:28:19. HOKA Northern Arizona Elite’s Stephanie Bruce finished second in 2:29:21. Then Roecker, an unsponsored runner, crossed the Sacramento finish line in 2:30:25. “The race was all a blur,” Roecker, 27,...

BOSTON —Six-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady spoke about how his wife Gisele Bundchen has used some unusual ways to keep luck on her husband's side.... "I've learned a lot from my wife over the years," Brady said while laying down in a barber's chair. "She's about the power of intention, believing that things are really going to happen." Brady said Bundchen put together a little altar for him that he could bring with pictures of his kids....
